MATTHEW BEDE MURPHY
Murphy is a painter, printmaker and keeper of a vast sketchbook library. He uses traditional applications in unusual ways, and is interested in the dissolve between painting, drawing and mechanical application. Humor and whimsy are often a focus as well as the exercising of random anxieties in dream-like settings. Murphy has exhibited widely across the US, and in 2013, he had a 120 drawing show at the Avis Frank Gallery in Houston, Texas. In 2009, he collaborated with UFO Devotee group called UNARIUS for 2 exhibitions in Los Angeles, California at the 18th Street Art Center and La Mamma Gallery in NYC. Murphy will be included in the upcoming exhibition Grâce Au Dessin at Woodbury University's Nan Rae Gallery located in Burbank, CA JAN 27 2018 - MARCH 17 2018 Curated by Jason McKechnie.
Matthew Bede Murphy co-founded the LAND Gallery and Studio in 2003. With over 20 years of experience in the field, he has an extensive background serving developmentally disabled adults in art related affiliations. Murphy has also built partnerships with museums, galleries, non-profits, and other institutions stressing inclusion, advocacy, and collections.
